According to effectsdatabase.com Top Gear effects were designed and manufactured by Len Hawkes (owner of Hawkes Electronics and physics lecturer at Brighton Technical College) in Top Gear's Sussex premises in the '70s. The first pedals had gray or black panels, the Series-70 introduced in 1975 had a fibreglass box and red face plates.
