Roland AP-2 Phase II

made in Japan 1974 - 1976

Roland AP-2 Phase II, Japan 1976

Roland, established in 1972, launched the AP-2 Phase II in 1975. The AP-2 along with a couple of siblings formed a small line-up of effects pedals to bear the Roland name until the company decided to use the new Boss brand name for their effects pedals from 1976 onwards.

This vintage phaser has controls for "Rate" and "Resonance" to manipulate both the amount of phase, and the shape of the sine wave, yielding a huge array of smooth Leslie-inspired tones. Everything from a slight, slow-rolling phase to an intense, spacey tonal manipulation comes out of this versatile unit. This 18V effect (two 9V batteries) sounds very similar to a Roland Jet Phaser - just without the Jet feature.
